What is expected from managers has changed fundamentally over the course of the last twenty years: The top-notch craftsman or official-in-charge is not automatically the most adequate manager for a particular business unit or department any more.
The current economic situation requires people in management positions, who are willing to commit to a role that subjects them to constant uncertainty and ongoing change processes. Today, managers are expected to remain credible in a turbulent and ever-changing corporate context, to independently initiate change and create a pleasant framework for their staff members – without simultaneously losing track of consistently growing turnover figures.
